Job description: We are looking for a creative, fun, energetic and intuitive caregiver for our seven year-old son. He is funny, creative and very intelligent. He loves reading, especially stories about dragons and magic, and pretend play. He was born with an extremely rare genetic deletion and has social-emotional and motor delays, in addition to speech articulation and muscle and joint challenges, repetitive behavior and anxiety.
This would be an excellent position for someone who is studying psychology or education and wants exposure to different therapy approaches along with the chance to work with a bright and motivated child.
The caregiver will be a core part of his support team, attending virtual and in-person occupational, speech, vision, and physical therapy appointments, with specific responsibility for finding ways to creatively incorporate homework from those sessions into play. The caregiver will also work with our son’s high anxiety with the support of a psychotherapist. We use the DIR/Floortime treatment protocol with our son, a play-based approach for social-emotional delays and will provide extensive training in that approach.
Our ideal caregiver is excited about creative play and physical play, both indoors and outdoors. We are seeking someone who is very observant, intuitive and a good listener, who can build a strong bond with our son. We also value good communication skills, reliability, and punctuality. We do not need specific special needs experience and will provide training with our son’s therapists. A willingness to take feedback and the capacity to incorporate new ideas into activities is essential. We would love a caregiver who is excited to learn new things and is willing to embrace creative approaches to working with our son.
Hours/Schedule: From now until school begins in late August, we are looking for someone to come to our home in Superior for approximately 35 hours a week (the specific schedule can be somewhat negotiable). Once school begins, we would need approximately 20 hours a week, picking him up from school and driving him to therapy appointments and playing at home afterwards.
PAY/BENEFITS: Between $18-27/hour depending on experience and training. We can commit to a schedule and a set number of hours per month and offer paid major holidays. COVID guidelines will be observed as they continue to develop.
